It looks like the European model forecasts were correct, and the Thanksgiving storm delivered over a foot of snow to Viking Nordic Center! The snow is wet, and some branches came down with it, but we are hard at work packing and grooming with hopes of having groomed trails to play on tomorrow, Saturday, November 30th.
Our Ski Shop will open at 9:00am for ticket sales, season passes and rentals. Snow shoeing trails will be open, and backcountry style skiing for adventurers.
Viking Nordic Center in Southern Vermont is currently seeking additional team members for the 2024-25 winter season. We have a fantastic staff in place, but would be happy to add 1-2 more part-timers to work in our shop or help groom. At Viking, you’ll have an opportunity to contribute in ways that you find meaningful. While each team member will have specific responsibilities unique to their position, everyone will get to bring their own strengths and interests to the job. Specific qualifications are helpful (and required, in the case of instructors), but we will happily train positive, active, and enthusiastic candidates for any position. Most importantly, applicants must be eager to be part of a fun, supportive team of Nordic skiing and snowshoeing enthusiasts, and be ready to share their enthusiasm with Viking guests and the entire New England Nordic skiing community. Viking offers competitive hourly wages, as well as industry pro deals, discounted trail passes, and special access to the Viking trails and facility. Interested in applying or learning more about these opportunities? Please reach out to Steve at [email protected]. Viking Nordic Center in Londonderry, Vermont is excited to introduce its new Director, Steve Bruner, who takes the reins from longtime managers Dana and Malcolm McNair. Steve developed a passion for cross-country skiing as a kid growing up in Minnesota, which fed into a college athletic career and a lifelong pursuit of many outdoor endurance sports including xc skiing, running, cycling, and paddling. As a young MBA and entrepreneur, Steve developed strategic plans for national parks, both nationally and internationally, including Yellowstone. He also taught collegiately and built and sold a green building materials business in Bozeman, Montana. Upon moving to New England in 2014 he immersed himself in the northeast and national Nordic ski scene. Steve is coming to Viking after four years at the Stratton Nordic Center, where, along with managerial responsibilities, he groomed trails and taught lessons. A certified USSA coach and PSIA-AASI instructor, he helped found and develop the Stratton Terrain Challenge. Steve lives with his wife and two kids, both of whom attend Stratton Mountain School, in South Londonderry, VT. He looks forward to assembling a great staff of groomers, instructors and ski & snowshoe enthusiasts at Viking Nordic! If interested in joining the Viking team, please contact Steve at [email protected]. There was snow in the mountains this morning, with temps forecast to drop. Soon we hope for scenes like the ones above!
