daily trail report

OH UGH!

12/19/2023

Well that was a LOT of rain. Yet again we got a ton of rain here that flooded everything. Roads closed, town started to flood, schools let out early and the rain just kept on coming down. To add insult to injury we had some significant wind too. Every skier watched it and mused, 'just think if this was snow.' Sadly that was not the case. There was just so much rain.

The picture is a long shot of River Loop. All that water in the background is racing over what is usually a nice flat ski trail around the field along the side of the West River. On a nice day you might see the otters - yesterday, all you could see was water and standing waves out there.

Any snow we might have had to start building a base, is gone. Our carefully placed culverts and winter bridges moved to different locations, trees came down and water spots that had finally dried up are very active again. It is a sad state of affairs and is going to take some work to get us back to where we were a few days ago. We are working hard to get everything cleaned up so that when we get snow we are ready. I've said it before - this business is not for the faint of heart.

Sadly, Mother Nature and Old Man Winter are being fickle right now. There is nothing in the forecast that even remotely looks like snow. It's not looking good for a white holiday week. Now, we all know that can change at the drop of a cold spell, so we don't rule it out completely, and that is the other thing you need in this wonky business, a lot of hope. Without hope, it's just drowning yourself in hot chocolate and lots of extra marshmallows.

So, keep the faith, do a snow dance, maybe make a little offering to the Snow Gods. If anything happens, we will post it here and on our facebook page.

Thanks for checking in.
