daily trail report

Nice spring conditions and lots of tracks

3/5/2021

Open from 9-5 today. Update at 1pm - 20km open for skiing.
15km open for skiing - more opening up after Malcolm cuts up a tree that fell across the trail out by the Beaver Pond and does some grooming. 31 km open for snowshoeing and fat bikes.  The groomed snow will be a nice lose frozen granular again today.

The woods are waking up as temperatures warm up, and nice groomed ski trails provide an easy passage through the trees. Night time is a particularly busy time for all sorts of critters. Early morning is also a travel time so when there's fresh powder the signs are easy to see. We've seen moose, coyote, fox, rabbit, squirrel, turkey, otter and porcupine tracks to name a few.   What might you see? What stories can the tracks tell you?

We will not have night skiing this weekend. Saturday temperatures will be warm enough to cause some melting during the day turning quite cold at night. This will cause some freezing that will require some focused grooming in the morning.
