daily trail report

What a week!

2/24/2025

9:15am UPDATE - Steve groomed the inner trails this morning.  They set up so nicely that he is headed out to get the rest!!

Whew! Or, as is said by some folks in my native Minnesota, "Uff-da"! That was quite a holiday week. With props to Mother Nature, we got to share our trails, our cafe, our friendly staff, and our vibe with boatloads of people last week.

From Valentines Day through yesterday, we had well over 1,000 people visit Viking. We gave 43 lessons, tallied over 300 equipment rentals, and validated lots of season passes, punch cards, and reciprocal passes. In our cafe, we sold over 200 drinks, 141 cookies and brownies, 126 grilled cheeses and quesadillas, and 121 homemade soups and chili. In the shop, in addition to gloves, hats, poles, and boots, we sold Vermont products like Sugar Bob's nuts, Bag Balm, and Battenkill Brittle (next year, our plan is to have some Viking-branded options for purchase as well). Who knows how many cookies we gave out to kids who completed the cookie challenge. And, on Saturday night, we got to host the Viking Night Race and watch 100 kids zip around our trails under the lights. So, so cool.

Now, Mother Nature is going to take her foot off of the pedal for a little bit. Temps are expected to hit the 40's this week before cooling off again next weekend. The good news is that we have a nice base of snow to help get us through these temps. You can anticipate spring-like conditions this week. Still good skiing and snowshoeing, just getting softer throughout the day. Today's conditions are excellent. Grooming went well. It's likely we'll hold off on grooming later in the week so that we don't set ourselves up for boilerplate conditions once the temps drop again.

Over the past few winters, some of the best skiing has come in mid to late March. We don't know what's in store for us this year, but are ready to ride this amazing wave as long as we can. We look forward to seeing you in the weeks ahead.
