New Trail!
Exciting news --- we've been busy prepping a new trail which we expect to have open for skiing for the 2012-2013 ski season. The trail runs from The Hut to The Chute sort of paralleling part of Boynton Run. For the most part it is level or in places it very gently flows up or down, just enough elevation that you might feel like you have the wind at your back when skiing down the grade. There are 3 very short up/downs, like you might find on the inner trails, and one longer moderate pitch and it has a visible and straight runout. We haven't measured the trail yet but it takes about 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other.
When we open this trail it will be a great beginner's loop when paired with Boynton. If you've mastered Norseman and want a longer loop, the new trail will be a good next step. Or if you're not feeling up to going down (and back up) Pines Run or up The Chute or Roundabout, the new trail and Boynton will be a good combo. It will be a great loop to send an overeager partner out to ski and work off some energy while you rest in the sun at the Hut's picnic table.
If you watch the slideshow tour of the trail you'll see what a new trail looks like about two thirds of the way through creation; we still have stumps to remove, culverts to put in, grading, widening and leveling to do. This is the first of several trails we'd like to develop on 60 acres we call 'the new land'.
Keep checking back here for updates.
